Non-profit organization founded in 1987, Productions Nuits d'Afrique (PNA) has as its primary mission the promotion, dissemination, development, and recognition of music stemming from African, Caribbean, and Latin American cultures in Quebec, as well as in Canada and internationally.
Its main activities include programming concerts and shows throughout the year, and since 1987, the production of a major cultural event: the Nuits d'Afrique International Festival. As a major player in the field of artist and musician production, Productions Nuits d'Afrique has been present on the national and international scene for over thirty years, notably through major music industry markets such as WOMEX in Europe, MaMa in France, and APAP in the United States.
PNA significantly contributes to the development and exposure of Canadian artists by facilitating their access to the global "World Music" market. While this work has borne fruit and these artists are now better represented in venues and festivals, there is still a long way to go to make them visible in the digital environment. For this reason, PNA has been committed for several months to improving the online discovery of labeled World Music productions and creations, notably through the establishment of the collective laboratory, La Percée (www.lapercee.ca).
